The Coca-Cola Company launched the first Ramadan food program with the Lebanese Food Bank

The Coca-Cola Company and the Regional Egyptian Food Bank initiate a Ramadan food program to distribute 1,000,000 meals across Lebanon, Jordan, KSA & Iraq

In partnership with the Regional Egyptian Food Bank and in the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs in Lebanon Mr. Wael Abou Faour, The Coca-Cola Company launched the first Ramadan food program with the Lebanese Food Bank to distribute 1,000,000 meals to underprivileged families across Lebanon, Jordan, KSA & Iraq.

This partnership was initiated in Egypt in 2010 and is now being launched in Lebanon through a joint press conference hosted by Mr. Antoine Tayyar, Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola Middle East and Mr. Moez El Shohdi, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Egyptian Food Bank.

"This year's Ramadan food aid program is the first initiative of its kind in the region to support beneficiary families during the holy month of Ramadan. The food aid program is part of the Foundation's local humanitarian strategy and we are thankful to The Coca Cola Company which made our mission successful" said Mr. Moez Moez El Shohdi.

Mr. Kamal Sinno, Chief Executive Officer of The Lebanese Food Bank stressed on creating awareness around the responsibility one should have towards helping the needy: "The Lebanese Food Bank's mission is to convey the surplus unused food from hotels, restaurants and concerts to selected associations which will then distribute them to members of their beneficiaries. At a first glance, this may seem an easy equation if treated irresponsibly but the major task is the ones that comes post the feeding and that is focusing on awareness, development, rehabilitation and development of those who are eligible, and these fields are unlimited and wide."

The food boxes will be distributed in coordination with the ministry of social affairs ensuring swift delivery to a variety of NGOs with The Coca-Cola Company’s support, which will then distribute them among the unprivileged families within their community.

Commenting on this initiative, Minister Faour said: "What concerns me of this initiative is the will of doing good towards the community, which is met in the three institutions The Lebanese Food Bank, The Regional Egyptian Food Bank and The Coca-Cola Company." " Filling the needs of the poor or the needy from the surplus of food is an act of respect to the poor and are far from inferior, this matter must walk it." he continued.

Furthermore, The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners will be providing cases of beverages to accompany the food boxes, for those families to remain hydrated and refreshed throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

On his end, Mr. Antoine Tayyar stated:  “We are glad to cooperate with the Food Bank in Lebanon and in the rest of the Middle East and we are pleased that our first cooperation is occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, hoping it will contribute to provide one million meals for those fasting and bring joy and hope to their hearts. These are the principles Coca-Cola has always sought to achieve and spread.”

The Coca-Cola Company plans to be at the forefront in creating and highlighting its strong commitment towards the community. In this region, the spirit of giving back to the community has been fundamental and The Coca-Cola Company has successfully implemented numerous initiatives that aim to build better, stronger and more sustainable communities in the countries in which it operates.
